FAQ

Which photos work best for silhouettes vs. watercolor or sketches?

Silhouette artwork works best with clear side-profile photos that show strong contrast and distinct outlines—think simple backgrounds and good lighting that clearly defines the subject’s profile. Watercolor and sketch styles allow for more flexibility and work beautifully with landscapes or architectural photos that have depth, color, and a mix of light and shadow. Watercolors are best suited for outdoor scenes, while sketches shine with architectural subjects.

Are prints required?

No. Artwork creation includes digital downloads only. Prints, frames, canvases, and other products are optional and available for purchase separately through your private gallery.

What is the turnaround time?

Please allow 7–10 business days for digital artwork creation. This timeline begins once your photo and order details have been submitted.

Are revisions included?

Each order includes one complimentary revision to ensure your artwork feels just right. Additional revisions may be available for an additional fee.

Can I order prints later?

Yes. Your private gallery will remain available for future print orders. If ordering printed products, please allow 3–4 weeks for printing and shipping.

Do you offer rush orders?

A 72-hour rush option may be available for an additional fee, depending on current availability.

Are customizations or special requests available?

You may add a label such as a name, date, or year to your artwork at no additional cost. Requests for custom colors or additional details are welcome and will be thoughtfully considered whenever possible.

Photograph your subject during the daytime when possible, using a bright, clean background. Natural light helps create a clean, defined outline.

1.

Use Natural, Even Lighting

Have your subject face left or right so only one side of the face is visible. Photograph them at eye level, making sure the entire head is captured in the frame.

2.

Capture a Side Profile

Relaxed facial expressions tend to translate best in silhouettes, though gentle smiles can also work. Choose the look you love most.

3.

Keep the Expression Natural

For longer hair, pulling it up—such as a ponytail, braid, or loose bun—helps define the profile and adds character to the silhouette.

4.

Style Hair Thoughtfully

If ordering silhouettes for multiple people, please submit individual photos for each subject unless ordering a full-body or group silhouette.

5.

Photograph Individuals Separately

For full-body artwork, photograph subjects standing or walking toward or away from the camera. This works especially well for siblings.

6.

Full-Body Silhouettes

For infants, photos taken while they are sleeping often work best. Hold the camera directly above their face and capture a clear side profile.

7.

Tips for Babies

Photos taken with a smartphone are perfectly fine—just be sure the image is clear, well-lit, and in focus.

8.

Phone Photos Are Welcome

If submitting multiple photos, please rename each file with the person’s name if text labels are requested.
